I present a series of works dedicated to the world’s oldest artifact: the Shigir Idol. This idol, found in our country, is both a source of historical pride and a mystery.
The Shigir Idol was discovered completely by chance in the 1870s near the village of Kalata (present-day Kirovgrad, Sverdlovsk Oblast). Fragments were found at a depth of about four meters in a peat bog. After reconstruction, the idol stands at a height of 5.3 meters.
The idol is covered with geometric ornamentation on all sides. In addition to the large, somber face, there are six other less noticeable faces depicted in various places on the sculpture. The Shigir Idol is currently housed in the Regional Museum of Yekaterinburg, Russia.
